VIÑA PEDROSA Ribera del Duero Reserva 2011

93 points

The 2011 Viña Pedrosa Reserva is a gorgeous effort this estate. This expressive red wine is a blend of 90% Tempranillo with 10% Cabernet and was aged 24 months in French and American oak prior to bottling. Possessing a slightly darker aromatic profile than the 2012 Viña Pedrosa Reserva, this wine stars with aromas of sandalwood, roasted figs, nutmeg and boysenberry with suggestions of bacon fat. There are flavours of red currant, cassis, Mandarin orange rind and tar. Lovely balance and weight with a lingering berry and citrus driven finish. This will have an exceedingly long life, despite being approachable right now.

VIÑA PEDROSA Ribera del Duero Reserva 2012

92 points

Founded in 1980, the Viña Pedrosa estate has 135 hectares that is set on chalk and clay sloped hills. The winery is perched on top of the hill just outside the village of Pedrosa de Duero. The 2012 Viña Pedrosa Reserva is another gorgeous effort from this estate. This balanced bottling begins with aromas reminiscent of black cherry, white pepper and red currant. There are flavors of red cherry, lavender, red currant and wild blackberry with strong suggestions of Mandarin orange rind. This is balanced and mineral driven wine, with a  long finish. This Ribera can benefit from another year of bottle age for the fruit to further integrate. Give this at least an hour decant before enjoying.

VIÑA PEDROSA Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva 2009

93 points

The 2009 Hnos. Pérez Pascuas Viña Pedrosa Gran Reserva is a gorgeous reléase wine that showcases a good vintage that saw exceedingly high summer temperaturas and mid-September rains. This dense wine begins with aromas of sandalwood, Mandarin orange peel, black olive and black cherry. Lovely depth, as the wine needs more than one hour to decant to reveal flavors of wild blackberry cobbler, black cherry, pink grapefruit rind and anise. Incredible range of flavors and richness to this wine. This balanced wine will be a long ager.
